Amateur artists receive an overwhelming response from art connoisseurs and buyers at the 50th Maharashtra Art Show held at Jehangir Art Gallery

When an annual art event goes unnoticed only
because the newspapers do not mention it, it
displays the sad state of affairs. The 50th Maharashtra State Art Show held at Mumbai’s
Jehangir Art Gallery had neither leggie models
nor aspiring actors to grace the occasion, and so it went unnoticed. Interestingly, this week-long, much-awaited event among art aficionados, had more footfalls than the city art galleries put together.

Open to amateur artists residing in the State, it attracted over 4,000 entries in categories like drawings, paintings, charcoal works, sculptures, graphics and photography. Ultimately, some 200 entries found place on the walls of the two galleries of the Jehangir, of which ten received an award each.
A maiden platform for amateur artists, the event gives them the opportunity to “know where they stand” as an artist puts it. For serious art buyers
